There is no official definition for "the middle class." However, one widely referenced definition comes from the Pew Research Center, which defines "middle class" as American households earning between two-thirds to double the household median income or nationwide, about $50,000 to $150,000.
Individual Income By State
In their latest analysis, the U.S. Census Bureau Income in the United States: 2022, Current Population Reports full-time American workers' median earnings were $47,960; with men earning $52,770 and women earning $41,320. Upper Class Household Income
Business Insider defined "upper class" as households with incomes two times the median household income in each state for their story, Here’s how much money it takes to be in the upper class in each state. The following maps the percent of households earning double the state's median income and the minimum household income required to be defined as upper class by Business Insider.
