Household Income in the United States (Latest Data)

Here is what middle-class incomes look like mapped across all 50 states, reports CNBC. According to the latest United States Census Bureau data, the median household income is $80,610.

While the above figures are updated for 2023, the U.S. Federal Reserve also reviewed U.S. household income and net worth as of 2022. Their official report is only released every three years. A 'household' is defined by the U.S. Census Bureau as all people living in the same housing unit, regardless of their relationship to each other. In Figure 2, the age of the head of the household is determined by the oldest survey respondent.
